Given Lenny has said the team needs more investment (after last nights game) can we assume he's not been promised money from the McGinn sale? If so it would seem we're financially overstretching ourselves and the board have kept the money to ease the burden. Any thoughts?

He’s not going to spend money for the sake of it. He’ll know who he wants within the budget limits. He’s been very successful as a player and a manager. He knows what he’s doing and I have no doubt he’ll do what’s the very best for my beloved club. I trust him and his judgement implicitly.

I'm my opinion I feel they are struggling to strengthen last season's side. To strengthen we need to be better, I don't feel we are. We've lost 2 fantastic central midfielders and brought in 2 "decent" replacements, one of which is only here for 6 months. We've built on nothing from last year. I'm not knocking any of the staff involved in recruitment as it can't be easy to find the sort of players to replace the ones we lost and I can imagine they are all trying like bears to bring in a couple more. We have been twiddling our fingers over the John Mcginn saga to long, there might be money available but time is not.

Hibs will have 3 players coming in in the next 3 weeks.

I love my team but despair at how naive some of my fellow Hibees are.

We all know John McGinn wants to play for Celtic. We all know Celtic want him. So they put in bids Hibs won't accept or so it seems.

Now tell me. Can anyone, hand on heart, believe that there's no chance all parties have held discussions weeks ago. Neil is Celtic thru and thru. John is a Celtic fan. No one thinks for a moment that John may have already agreed to sit tight and wait for a pre contract. No one? Neil claimed John was worth 5m but he's not once criticised Celtics derisory offers. That speaks volumes given if it had been any other club he'd have plenty to say. No?

If John wanted to he could go to leanne and ask for a years extension to his contract. But we live in the real world where he won't care a hoot if Hibs receive a fee or not.

So with all that in mind Hibs should grab what they can from Celtic and move on. If its true about the 2m then accept it and accept it publicly before Celtic say "oh rubbish their calling our bluff".

Lets get away from thinking Neil and John will do what's best for Hibs. let's grow up a bit!

Would rather lose him for nothing than sell him cheap.

13 Jul 2017 00:16:24
So how did Lenny miss out on GM-S? Doesn't say much for his Celtic allegiance. You guys happy to accept a 34yr old on a probable years contract while Aberdeen, with less season ticket holders are screaming miles out of sight by signing a very talented young Scottish player?

mentalhibby1

{Ed007's Note - Aberdeen coukd probably afford to pay more in a fee and wages mate.}

1.) 13 Jul 2017 00:44:41
Is it time to ask Petrie where the money went?

Sell Cummings for over a million.
Win Championship.
Record season tickets sold for the second consecutive season.
TV revenue we didn't have before.
Cup semi.

We couldn't compete with League 1 clubs wage offers for a 250k player.
That's painful!

We've spent a grand total of £150k on a goalkeeper.

Signed a few for free, released a few for free.

I'm happy with the young lads breaking through but we need more quality in and soon.
We won't get it without speculating or investment of some kind.

2.) 13 Jul 2017 09:58:39
It's galling to have to watch Christie, Stewart and GMS going to the Dons and to see them offer for Moult& May, all players that I would have thought we should have been interested in! I think Lenny is hoping that Stokes will eventually sort out his release from Blackburn. I would prefer Moult myself! I think we all thought that Celtic would come in for McGinn and we might get some of these players in exchange, the way things are now, we really need to hold on to him.

3.) 13 Jul 2017 13:10:39
Who's to say we lost out on him? Who's to say Lennon was ever interested in the first place. We can't sign everyone yet we're linked to every Celtic player that isn't getting a game.

4.) 13 Jul 2017 13:42:18
I have to agree I would of thought with Lennon's connection there would be no way Aberdeen could jump ahead of us in the queue for any Celtic player. According to Aberdeen websites the fee is rumoured at £150k, which if is true is mind boggling that we haven't secured his services.

Every Hibee knows we're looking at players for the final third. can't understand how we've let this one slip. For the record I'd love Henderson back (Cup Legend) but he wouldn't be priority over GMS. Pennant will be a likely be offered a deal as Lennon has been impressed and I think he will bring something to the table but he should of been a supplement signing not a marquee like GMS would of been! THIS ONE IS SORE TO TAKE.

5.) 13 Jul 2017 15:37:42
I don't think Celtic would offer enough for McGinn right now, they don't need him and won't sign him as a prospect with the bloated midfield they already have.
If any conversation happened regarding it I'd think we'd have asked for two surplus players plus cash and they'd have said no.

GMS to Aberdeen makes sense - straight replacement for Hayes and Celtic already paid more than a million for him so a discounted rate was agreed.

Christie was already there on loan and did well last season, no sense in sending him somewhere else if the Dons wanted him back again either.

Stewart was a possible. Guaranteed European chance and money probably swung it.
Aberdeen haven't spent all that much in recent years and don't have a massive squad either, they can likely afford to spend when it suits them with them doing well.

I'm more annoyed we couldn't secure Berry since he was so cheap a fee.
Moult/ Boyce/ May can be added to that too. Well claimed they had no offers in for Moult so I can only assume Lennon doesn't like them or hasn't got the finances available to buy them.

6.) 13 Jul 2017 16:55:05
Prior to Aberdeens offer for Moult, Two clubs showed interest, gers and HiBS, gers were quoted £500k and O'Hallon. God knows what we were asked for, probably £700k. As far as the rest of the players I mentioned, if Lennon wasn't interested in them he should have been. Everyone of them would have been an asset to the club. £150k for GMS was certainly cheap. This has been a crap window for us as far as strikers are concerned.

7.) 14 Jul 2017 01:29:08
It has.
On the plus side Oli looks more mature than we thought and Murray will be useful.
On the negative side that means we have 2 forwards because Graham is proving himself not good enough.

Unfortunately it's been the position Lennon has struggled to fill wherever he's been, with or without money.

We look more dangerous from midfield now but that's not enough to make up for giving away 30+ goals and a step up in competition.

Ed are you being serious. What the hell do you think West Brom saw when he was at Dundee United? They certainly didn't see a Scottish championship player ff's.
Your assertion that he's just a decent second division player is not only an insult to the Championship where he was player of the year, it's a bloody insult to Hibs.
Dundee United were quick to praise Hibs style of play after the cup game and we beat Ross County in the Scottish. Don't go thinking Hibs couldn't handle themselves in the mighty premiership which at this moment in time is a bore fest. Best you go edit a Celtic site rather than trying to annoy we Hibees with your sense of Celtic grandeur and arrogance.

mentalhibby1

{Ed007's Note - Shouldn't that be 'wee' Hibees? So tell me, what division did Allan win POTY in? It was the Scottish second division unless I'm mistaken so it's not like I'm lying is it? And what did West Brom see in Allan, enough that he never played a single game for them - and was released so I don't see what you're bragging about with that. He's had more clubs than Tiger Woods and he's ended up in the second tier of Scottish football, there's a reason for that, see if you can guess what it is....
I understand that you need to back up your team and players but I really don't see what I said that upset you although you do come across as a bit precious, it's not insulting to say that Hibs and Allan play in the second tier of Scottish football, they are facts.
The Scottish Premiership's reputation is in the gutter but where do you think our second division comes in the grand scheme of things, a league where the winners win it by 21 points and never really faced any real challenge? Or is that insulting as well?}

1.) 26 Jun 2015 13:00:39
Mentalhibee1 - It appears to be a new editor that doesn't like Hibs. The old one wouldn't talk like that in such a delusional way.

Anyone that knows their football know Allan is potentially worth millions and milions.

{Ed007's Note - New editor? I suppose if doing this for the last 5 years makes me new then we'll go with that. I wanted Hibs to go up last season and want them to go up next season perhaps if you read the site more often or paid more attention you'd have known that before making yourself look foolish.
Every single footballer is potentially worth millions and millions, my pal's nephew moved down south to sign for Wolves, he's potentially worth millions and millions.
Didn't WBA try to release Allan's potential and.... how did that work out again? So I'm sure WBA would disagree with you, along with Portsmouth (TWICE!!), MK Dons, and Birmingham City who all had him on loan and yet didn't try to sign him when he was freed after flopping at WBA.
Over the years I always thought shouting that your players were worth millions was a Rangers then Sevco trait. A player is only worth what another team will pay for them, it doesn't matter what supporters think. If Allan was so good why isn't there a queue of teams trying to sign him, a million quid isn't a lot of money to teams down in England and you'd think someone would risk it, but they aren't, there's no interest in Allan from England, ask yourself why that is?}

2.) 26 Jun 2015 23:59:08
I do pay attention and you're talking completely different to the other editor. You're just saying it's the same editor for the sake of trying to win a debate.

Moving to England can be daunting for a young guy and that police matter never helped did it. Homesick, police matter and not getting of to a good start down there footballing wise all contributed to a disastrous spell.

He has came up to Hibs and is living near family again, and playing in a lower league can get a player going again. He plays through balls and passes that many EPL players can't even make and you can't deny that. He is easily better than players like McArthur and look how much he is sold for.

{Ed007's Note - You've lost me now mate, seriously, what are you talking about with the other editor stuff? I'm a Celtic fan but my ED007 number comes up on every site I edit and comment on and I'm pretty sure I'm the same guy every time.... I just checked the mirror... Yep, it's still me - handsome as ever!}

3.) 27 Jun 2015 16:56:11
How many editors are there on this site that have access to this Hibs page? Previous editor was a Hibs fan.

{Ed007's Note - 20.}

4.) 01 Jul 2015 18:33:13
Well, that explains it then! Ha

{Ed007's Note - I'm the only sensible one though :)

Ian Murray? Write a list of successful Hibs men coming in as managers and didn't get sacked.

I agree totally with Budge. We too need a well known, experienced manager that will offer stability and will get respect when he walks through the door. Since Alex Miller left, our managers, good and bad have lasted an average of 2yrs.
Thats just ridiculous. Buy in a raft of players, dump the manager, release players, bring in more players. The fees and release payments from 14 managers would have paid for the South Stand.

Ask wee Gordon. If he turns it down get him to help find a senior manager who's bored playing golf and watching day time TV. We need experience, respect and stability.

Hibs boy go lay down in a darkened room. Have you actually seen league 2 in the raw? Bet you haven't. I have and I'd rather watch St Johnstone v Ross County etc any day. You have to be on the windup. As for money? It didn't do Chesterfield much good. Cracking new 10k seat stadium sitting nr empty while they struggle to get back into the league. One of many ex league 2 clubs feeling the heat financially.

Leave it to leeann. She hasn't let us down yet. Scottish Cup win and Championship promotion from her managers ain't too shabby. We need to mind where we were a few years ago.

How can anyone criticise Leeann Dempster. She signed Lennon in the first place . If people can't recognise a non disclosure agreement well what's the point of trying to explain it. I for one am ambivalent towards Neil Lennon. The biggest loss will be the lack of coverage from the Glasgow media now he's gone. The biggest gain will be not hearing him giving his opinion of Celtic in the middle of Hibs press conferences. Let's get behind the club. They deserve more respect than the ridicule that's been dished their way.

I to have to admit I was totally wrong about Scott. Never, ever thought he would come back on our wage scale. Fantastic signing.
