Lennon has came out and stated he'd like to sign another 2/ 3 players after watching us the other night minus a few regulars I wonder do we actually need them? Stokes is well known to be our primary target and obviously he is an ER legend but I question whether he is required. Commons another quality player but is he a necessity (still want him)? With the emergence of 3/ 4 quality youngsters to compliment the existing squad I'll stick my neck on the line and say this is the best Hibs team in 10/ 20 years. GGTTH.

It's certainly going to be difficult to keep them all happy. We now have 9 defenders, 4 FB's and 5 CH's. If we bring in a striker, who does he play? He chased Matulevicius for a yr he's surely going to play him. Simon Murray is scoring goals and Boyle is a must for me, plus Oli Shaw's knocking on the door. We are well off in midfield as well with Slivka being added, and some young guys in there to. It looks like being the best squad we've had for a long time.

2.) 27 Jul 2017 14:42:02
Big L that is my only concern can Lennon keep them all happy? Probably not but the competition for places is intense which can only be a good thing for the club. 100% agree with you regarding Squirrel his pace and directness adds another dimension to our play and Murray's goals and work-rate so far can't be dismissed either.

Lithuanian Dave will be the target man again I agree but the explosiveness of both Boyle and Murray will be utilised at Ibrox and Celtic Park I'd imagine when we'll see less of the ball than we've become accustomed to.

Like all fans I love a new signing but I hope any new arrival now is a higher calibre of player if it's going to merit possibly hindering the progress of this exciting next crop!

3.) 27 Jul 2017 15:11:40
Good points Oban, great to see the 4 young guys involved, I wonder if their's anymore. Might have to take in a Dev game, see for myself.

4.) 27 Jul 2017 19:25:29
Best in 10/ 20? We could still easily be battling relegation as this team could only win a lot of gamss 1-0 with Cummings.

Depending on more signings, this squad could still finish anywhere between 2nd to 11th.

5.) 27 Jul 2017 23:22:25
MrAware can you tell me a time in the past twenty years we had a better squad? Mowbrays young brood were good and we cashed in financially but the overall squad in my opinion was inferior to the Lennon's current side.

Bournemouth striker Joe Quigley linked with a loan move to The Hibees. 6ft 3inch 20 year old striker. doesn't exactly boast the best goalscoring stats but could be a possibly replacement for Graham.

Reports coming in we've signed Sean Maguire from Cork city from under Preston's noses. 37 goals from 49 games last season. If true sizeable fee would of been required!

1.) 09 Jul 2017 23:38:18
He's already a Preston player. Signed a deal beginning of June.

13 May 2017 20:11:20
Delighted Lennon has started the clearout early and some of the ex-Celts linked would prove shrewd business. Efe and Stokes all but agreed Maloney offered deal if rumours are to be believed Mulgrew also of interest to the gaffer as is Whittaker. I'm a massive McGinn fan but Rodgers has publicly expressed interest now might be the time to think long-term. I'd trade JM for Hendo, Allan and GMS and I still think we could hold out for 500k. Expecting Swanson's arrival to be followed with genuine quality.

1.) 13 May 2017 20:56:12
Whittaker, Maloney, MULGREW!
NO, NO, NO

3 players to bring in HOPING they could maybe "still do a job".

We need to freshen up and stay relevant to the Scottish game. Look at Rangers, old heads don't win games up here. We need fighters, people who would feel privileged to come fight for the jersey.

I hope half these rumoured transfers remain only rumours. Get a grip folks.

2.) 14 May 2017 02:27:28
In principle I have a problem with loading our team with ex/ current Celtic players. Problem is some of them are really good players.
However Henderson, Allan and Stevens in a change for McGinn I could live with.
Don't want Stokes back. Prefer to remember as a hero of 21/ 05/ 16. He carries too much baggage now. Would have liked Mulgrew a few years ago but he is past his best now. Ambrose could be a useful addition to our defence as he has already shown.

3.) 14 May 2017 13:13:40
1620 I could live wi that, 3 seriously good players imo. The only problem as I see it, is that we would also need cash as well to pay of St Mirren for their % share of McGinn's sale. Their should be enough to do that deal if we get the right price for McGinn.

4.) 14 May 2017 17:05:30
Mulgrew is 31 years old? Whittaker 32? Maloney 34?
All still very good players which I would welcome at Easter, Rd rangers old heads were there better players so that theory is out the window, stokes playing as a number 10 behind Cummings and Boyce bite your hand off!

5.) 14 May 2017 19:13:59
I heard a rumour that Whittaker will be back in Scotland next season but it will be with Rangers on 8K a week. I think that was an option when it looked like SDG was maybe leaving, not needed now. I have to wonder why Lennon would want Maloney when we've just got Swanson? I have to agree wi 1620, this is a chance to get some young exciting players and a few quid!

6.) 14 May 2017 21:59:55
Barton? Senderos? Kranjcar? Aye some impact they had at ibrox (that's that one out the window)
Deluded if you think that because these boys have played down south that they will come back up world beaters, come on mate wake up. You clearly have no idea how it works up here, it's a hunger game, these boys mentioned have lost there hunger. We've good foundations right now, start bringing in to much experience and you knock the balance and lose your changing room. Buy smart not obvious.

7.) 15 May 2017 00:10:48
3 players who for one reason or another did not feature in most of rangers games only proves your being selective, to try and justify your stupid first statement, I also trust Lennon to sign players with passion and hunger or to sign players who may need a fresh challenge to reignite there passion and hunger no matter what age they are frank sauzee, Russell Latapy mixu where brought to Easter Rd many thought over the hill? I rest my case.

{Ed007's Note - Just catching up here and I'll say that Maloney would be a better signing for Hibs than Commons. He would be a great example and inspiration to young players and would still be a quality SPFL player.

8.) 15 May 2017 01:14:36
Not sold on any of it besides Efe to be honest.

I'd rather keep McGinn obviously. But if it happened then;

GMS - maybe
Hendo - definitely
Allan - No. He's talented, but only ever worked for himself and we were a better team without him. He also disrespected the club and the fans trying to force his move to Rangers for far less than his worth, he can rot in the Celtic development squad for me.

Commons - I could live with if the deal is done early and he's fit for the season starting.

Maloney - I'm undecided. He's a good pro and will have the brain still but at 34 we'd be lucky to get 2 full seasons out of him on higher wages than we can reasonably justify.

Whittaker/ Mulgrew - same as above.

Stokes - I'll always thank him for last May, but he still carries the same attitude he always has and it wrecked squad morale and our league form for two months when he came in last time.
Him and Cummings wouldn't/ couldn't link up at all.
Also Lennon couldn't get him to play/ behave at Celtic, why would now be any different?

9.) 15 May 2017 01:38:20
I just don't fancy filling the side with old Celtic players, especially when theirs a few talented young players surplus to requirement. I don't see Hibs/ LD allowing that to happen. Your right about the Cummings -Stokes pairing, it was crap! One things certain, if Stokes comes JC's away. Stubbs was a bit soft wi the players, I don't think Lennon will be, surely he can sort him out. I think him and Gray had a wee set to. Stokes is older now got a family, maybe calmed down a bit, just have to keep him away from the Elvis impersonators.

10.) 15 May 2017 06:07:18
3 players for one reason or another didn't play? Yes because they couldn't handle the game, pure and simple. As for the likes of mixu, latapy and sauzee they came and played at a time were Scottish football thriving off a more mature style, you'll find most of the teams at that time were producing teams of experience, the average spl age was greater. Younger players have received more of a chance over the years due to lack of funds. It's had an impact on the intensity of the football here.

11.) 16 May 2017 01:25:44
To be fair Mixu played off the cut above that Latapy, Sauzee and often Zitelli were - the game here back then wasn't producing the fitness and conditioning of down south or abroad either so they had an advantage of sorts and we set up in a way that used their strengths really well.

Don't forget we spent a lot of money relatively to put that team together too, it wasn't like the academy side Mowbray inherited and added to with some real bargains like Boozy, David Murphy and later big Rob Jones.

Big L - Cheers, I thought it was just me that saw that from the way others gushed at the time.
I hope she doesn't too.
It was rumoured Stokes trained with the kids after that incident so I'm not sure he was too soft.

According to a BBC reporter tonight Hibs have expressed interest in Stevie Mallon Jnr from St Mirren. This would certainly involve a fee and probably a player going in the other direction, I'd suspect Stanton as they've been past admirers. The lad is a quality player who is more than capable of stepping up a level or two similar to John McGinn. I'd be delighted if the cabbage really pursue the lad, instant 4/ 5 year deal with sell-on value.

1.) 04 Aug 2016 13:23:48
If there's any truth in the Stevie Mallon story you must think this must put an end to Henderson coming back, l like the look of Mallon but he would have to hit the ground running, Henderson would fit in easier, but I would be happy with either.

2.) 04 Aug 2016 15:20:46
With a bit of luck we could get both Mallon and Henderson to really add competition for places. In my opinion the board are testing the water with Mallon to see if a deal would be possible due to the fact that Henderson would be back on a loan basis with no sell-on value. Ultimately football is a business and if a deal to sign Mallon is possible as much as I love Henderson I'd rather have Mallon signed than Hendo on loan.

Big game tomorrow lads and I'm expecting nothing other than 3 points. my probable line-up below thoughts?

3-5-2
Marciano
McGregor Ambrose Fontaine
Whittaker McGeouch McGinn Swanson Stevenson
Boyle S. Murray

Subs- Slivka, Porteous, Hanlon, F. Murray, Stokes, Big Davy, Bartley.

McGregor is suspended .

Looking like a brilliant bit of business from Stubbs & Co. Yes Scott Allan is a brilliant player probably our best player since Griffiths, but £275k in the bank for a player certain to sign a pre-contract with Rangers in January is good business. Add in MacGeouch signing on a decent length contract with Henderson coming in on loan for the season is tremendous negotiating on Hibs behalf. I maybe being greedy but hopefully Stokes or MacGregor being thrown in aswell would be the icing on the cake. There has been whispers although Stokes comes with baggage obviously, but he'd be worth his weight in goals!!!

Just to remind you that Leigh griffiths has never belonged to Hibernian fc in any form so to compare him along side Allan is wrong

I have to echo Big L if Murray is played through the middle he'll smash through the 20 goal barrier everyone seems so obsessed with. He's scored five in three matches from open play albeit against lesser opposition but he looks sharp and I'll confidently predict he'll have fifteen goals for Santa arriving and a revised contract in January!

Matulevicius has been brought in as an old fashioned battering ram who will most likely do the unsung work for others take take the plaudits. with this talented squad they'll be plenty of takers! In Lennon We Trust GGTTH.

Other than Graham don't think we've got much deadwood left. Danny Handling possibly we've already put Stanton out on loan for the final year of his contract. The next player to be told he is no longer required in my opinion will be Liam Fontaine and that won't be until January or towards the end of the campaign. only due to Porteous progress.

If Commons can get fit what a player we would have on our hands. It would be folly to think at his age he will reach the heights of his Celtic glory days but what a player to be able to bring off the bench for the last thirty minutes of a game. His knowledge off the pitch could be even more important given some of the talented prospects we've got coming through, an older experienced winner he'll command their respect.
